Grief and Loss

When you have lost a loved one or anticipate an upcoming loss, many different thoughts and feelings may show up for you. The approach we will take together is to understand what these feelings and thoughts are trying to tell you about the significance of this person and your history together, as well as what matters to you in life and what it means for you to have a continuing bond with this person, even after loss. We will work together in a supportive, warm environment where every thought is welcomed with curiosity and where there is no “right” or “wrong” way to feel or think.

Together through mindfulness exercise, we will learn to identify the different feelings and how they are trying to help us, as well as getting unhooked from thoughts that add suffering to the pain we are already experiencing. These techniques can help even in situations where the loss is incomplete or ongoing, sometimes called frozen grief or ambiguous loss. We will use this work as a launching place for growth and meaning, both paying attention to the patterns that you are engaging in to feel better in the moment and getting you closer to the things that really matter to you.
